DISCOVER THE HOW TO GAME DEVELOPMENT!

The public is invited to attend a live competition between students and young video game professionals! Free entrance.

Four workshops will give you a summary of the game creation: Game Design by EA Mobile, Concept Art by Eidos-Montreal, Modeling by Artificial Mind & Movement and Sound by Othentic Productions. Students and young professionals: register before November 11 to participate!

Animation and conferences will make you discover this industry’s fascinating universe.

Game Design Workshop round table

The Game Design workshop participants will present their production to Ollie Sykes. Discussions and exchange on the creation process and the video game ideation.

2 pm Conference with Benoit Babin, Music Producer – Othentic Productions

Video Game Sound Design

How to produce a sound track of a video game trailer? The sound design consists in creating the fictitious sounds synchronized in the image, by means of a bank of pre-recorded sounds. It also consists in creating the real sounds foley such as the noises of step, movements and manipulations made by characters. To demonstrate the importance of music, Othentic Productions will create live a musical composition synchronized with the video. The fundamental points of a good musical weft will be also approached.

3D Character modeling and texturizing

Come discover the stages of the creation of a 3D character.Through concrete examples, Dave Hawey, professor in video games at NAD Centre, will explain how to create a 3D character with a 3D and 2.5D.sofware. He will approach subjects such as conceptualization, creation of a character in low and high resolution, techniques of modeling, manufacturing of textures as well as the final depiction and the character posture.

9:45 am – 1:15 pm: Game Design EA Mobile, presented by Ollie Sykes, Creative Director FULL

Participants will work on paper

Ollie has been in the games industry for over 12 years and has over 40 published titles to his name. He is currently the Creative Director of EA Mobile’s Montreal studio and also teaches game and level design at several Montreal based schools. A self proclaimed video games addict, when he’s not making games, he’s playing them!

Small is Beautiful - Mobile Games Design Challenge

Mobile gaming is one of the most rapidly changing areas of the games industry today. This workshop will cover an overview of some of the biggest changes in the mobile games industry and how to design exciting, small games that achieve big results!

10:30 am – 12:45 pm : Concept art Eidos-Montreal, presented by Thierry Doizon, Senior Concept Artist FULL

Participants will work on Wacom tablets, and Corel software

WORKSHOP THEME

Participants will have to create a concept art based on one of the popular games made by Eidos – Square Enix

12:15 pm – 2:45 pm: Modeling Artificial Mind & Movement with Eric Houde, 3D Artist and Michael Winder, Character Artist FULL

Participants will work on Zbrush

Based in Montreal, Artificial Mind & Movement (A2M) is Canada’s largest independent game developer, employing 500 talented people in Montreal (Quebec) and Santiago (Chile). Since 1992, A2M has developed 120 titles across every game platform with over 28 million copies sold worldwide in partnerships with the industry’s top publishers.

WORKSHOP THEME

The presentation of the 3D modeling workshop, under the creative theme « Zombies vs Aliens », will expose the participants to the day-to-day life of a 3D artist, in the flexible environment based on team spirit offered by Artificial Mind & Movement. The studio professionals will introduce different technical notions and answer all the questions about their career. Participants will work on Z-brush with a Wacom tablet.

2 pm – 5:15 pm: Sound Othentic Productions, presented by Benoit Babin FULL

Participants must bring their own headset with a 1.8 plug.

Othentic Productions is a young creative business working in the music production. For a few years, the company specializes more and more in music for multimedia, films and television.

WORKSHOP THEME

The participants will have to create an acoustical environment on an imposed theme with N-Track.
